Bamboo is a grass, a strong, versatile and highly renewable resource. India is well endowed with resouces of Bamboo.  There has been a definite improvement in awareness regarding the need for considering bamboo as an alternative construction material both in the rural and urban context. As a result, considerable action has taken place in the field, in the past few years. It is pertinent to recognise and acknowledge the outstanding achievements.

Hence, HUDCO organised Design Ideas Competition2005 on the subject "Application of Bamboo in Construction" jointly sponsored by HUDCO and Hari Om Ashram Trust, Nadiad, Gujarat.

HUDCO received a several entries from all over the country. These were judged by a Panel of Assessors comprising of Shri PS Rana, CMD, HUDCO, Shri Shanti Bhai Amin, Chairman, Hari Om Ashram Trust, Dr.SK Khanduri, Director (Forestry), Planning Commission,  Shri VS Oberoi, Advisor, Deptt. Science & Technology, Ms Santosh Satya, Head of Deptt. (IIT) and Shri RK Safaya, Executive Director, HUDCO.
